On International Women’s Day, CONNECTICLUB stands in solidarity with women around the globe. This significant day marks not only a celebration of the achievements and contributions of women to society, culture, economy, and politics but also serves as a powerful call to action for accelerating gender parity. Women have played an indispensable role in driving societal progress, overcoming myriad obstacles, and challenging traditional perceptions of their roles in the modern world.
As we commemorate this day, we reflect on the tireless efforts of women who have fought for their rights, equality, and recognition, and we recognize the journey that still lies ahead in the quest for true equality. International Women’s Day is a pivotal moment to highlight the successes of women, to acknowledge the challenges they continue to face, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for equality and empowerment. It’s a day to inspire change, to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in the history of their countries and communities.
While we celebrate and reflect, it’s crucial to look at how far we still have to go with gender equality. Although there has been progress, challenges persist, especially in Malta. The country has advanced, particularly in the economic roles of women, but this progress isn’t enough. The issue of unfair gender roles still exists.
“By promoting women’s empowerment, challenging stereotypes, and creating a welcoming environment, we can build a fairer and more equal society for everyone, thereby speeding up our progress.”
The Malta Women’s Lobby has urged individuals, organizations, and policymakers to come together to further gender equality, and we remain hopeful for more advancements in the future.
In line with celebrating women’s achievements, today is also the ideal day to celebrate Julia Borg, a talented painter who has brought beauty to our space at CONNECTICLUB with her art. She’s unveiling her first solo exhibition, “In Bloom,” in which she embraces a new approach with large canvases and a semi-abstraction that promises to capture the “fleeting yet resilient essence of life.”
Open throughout April at the Palm Court Lounge, The Phoenicia Malta, this exhibition invites visitors on a vibrant journey of cultural fusion, celebrating the resilience of womanhood and the profound journey of motherhood. Each piece serves as a “tribute to the blossoming that occurs when love, equilibrium, and happiness converge”, introducing new experimental styles that honor the resilience of women and their transformative experiences as mothers.
Here at CONNECTICLUB, we are actively working towards fostering an ART COMMUNITY. We aim to create a dynamic and welcoming space where artists from all backgrounds can come together, share ideas, and work together on projects that push the boundaries of creativity. We invite artists to contact us to discover ways we can collaborate, with the aim of enhancing Malta’s art scene and providing a platform for creativity to flourish.
